The Lenten Season begins on Ash Wednesday – February 17, 2021. Distribution of ashes will take place outside the Church.
Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and abstinence. Fasting is to be observed by all, 18 years of age through 59. On a fast day, one full meal is permitted. Two other meals, which in total do not constitute another full meal yet are sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed. Abstinence is observed by all, 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed.
Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation.
Distribution of Ashes – 7:30 am to 6:00 pm
There will be a distribution post for drive through ashes and a post where people can park and walk up to receive ashes. The minister will apply the ashes with a Q-tip. A new Q-tip will be used for each person. Ashes will also be packaged to take home to family members who cannot come to the Church.
Mass will be at 9:00 am. Attendees to Mass will receive ashes outside either before or after Mass.
